About Registered Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the manipulation & assessment of soft tissues & joints of the body to affect a therapeutic response in the treatment & prevention of physical dysfunction. It can be used as preventive or restorative, to helping maintain, rehabilitate, augment physical function or relieve pain.
Massage therapy has strongly established its role as a clinically-oriented health profession used to relieve a variety of discomforts with undeniable results. Massage can help alleviate the soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday stress, muscular overuse & many chronic pain syndromes.
If applied early enough after injuries involving trauma, massage therapy can greatly reduce the development of painful muscular patterning.

Only members of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario are permitted to use the title Massage Therapist or Registered Massage Therapist & use the letters MT or RMT with their names. Massage therapists go through an extensive 2-3 year program to receive a diploma recognizing their qualifications. They are educated in anatomy, physiology, pathology, physical assessment, neurology, treatments, & ethics.
